Meet Our New Board Member - Mark Haakenson

Mark Haakenson currently serves as the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer for the

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). In his role at UWL, Mark oversees the

Business Services office, leading a staff of finance and administrative professionals

managing the day-to-day business operations of the university.

Mark grew up on his family’s farm near Evansville, south of Madison, and has lived in

La Crosse for the last 13 years. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in

Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011 and his

Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in

2022. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Mark enjoys working at a university because he gets to see how his work contributes to

students and gets opportunities to have a direct impact on their education. He

volunteers with organizations in his local community and has helped organize events

and programs benefiting children through his local Lions club, his neighborhood

association, and professional associations.

Mark is looking forward to finding ways that he can use his expertise to serve on the

Wisconsin CASA Board and advance the mission of Wisconsin CASA Associations

throughout the state.
